TESTIMONIALS

Anti-racism nuggets are exactly what the name implies -- instructive bites that leave you with doable actions for each week. Some weeks I had an “aha” moment, opening a window of revelation.  The nuggets are small but powerful messages that are suitable for one person or a group, easy to digest and can result in tremendous growth.

The  nuggets were a twice-weekly reminder to think about how I live my values to fight racism through my thoughts and actions. Some weeks highlighted information I have experience with, and it was helpful to see new sources and hear the authors' perspectives - then to be reminded midweek to consider actions.

Other topics, like the lasting effects of racism on financial stability, were explained in ways that gave me new ideas about how to talk about systemic racism, as well as new ways to focus my own spending.

Jenni Evans, Advocate in Parent Education (Cohort 1)

I honestly found it a bit traumatizing to see all the data in the nuggets and to realize that many well intentioned white people don't know these things. It certainly would make me feel better if I knew that all the white people in my networks knew about the nuggets.

More from our 2023 cohort

This program was very informative and has helped me navigate conversations with racist overtones or generalizations. It has given me tools to use background and historical information such as generational wealth or red-lining to add a different viewpoint to discussions. It has also provided me with practical ways to reach out to my community concerning racism through church, library, political and business activities. I have become much more reflective on my interactions with members of the BIPOC community.

There are clear and non-judgmental action steps outlined in the course that can be highly effective toward dismantling systematic racism.

This is absolutely worth your time, and you will get out of it what you put in to it. The opportunity to learn from like-hearted others is unique, supportive, and affirming.

About Anti-Racism Action Nuggets™

The content for this series came from decades of research on systemic inequity and from the personal experience of Dr. Allison Plyer, an expert in racial disparities and their historical antecedents. The series is designed with Val Uccellani, an internationally-recognized expert in adult learning design and facilitation, who focuses on the use of structured dialogue for deeper learning. Allison and Val were inspired to create this series by the racial reckoning of 2020, and the challenge from people of color that white people should take responsibility for teaching other white people about systemic racism.

Many NOW, LOVE leaders provided invaluable input into early pilots including Troi Bechet, Christine Jordan, Linda Usdin, Annie LaRock, Julianna Padgett, Tami Fairweather, Meg Logue, and Rachel Pickens.

Thanks to the generous support of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, your cost for this series has been kept to a minimum. If the cost is a barrier for you, please email us at [email protected].
