Overview and Timeline

This course will run from Saturday, January 21 through Wednesday April 26th, 2023, as described below .

Week 1 | Introductory Nuggets Saturday, Jan 21st to Tuesday, Jan 24th

Week 1 | Virtual Live Event #1 Wednesday Jan 25th  8-9:30 am CT
Our kick-off event will be via Zoom so you can connect directly with the designers and facilitators of the series, as well as many other good folks in this learning community! We’ll exchange examples of actions we take and reflect on the words of BIPOC leaders about how our actions can be most impactful.  We’ll each leave with a simple tool to help us track the kinds of actions we want to continue – and start – over the next few months.

Weeks 2 - 4 | Nuggets  Saturday February 2nd to Tuesday Feb 28th
 Everyone will receive 2 nuggets per week

⦿ A “deep dive” nugget focused on ONE meaningful action to take to live the value of anti-racism

⦿ A shorter nugget designed to remind and encourage

Week 5 | Virtual Live Event #2 -
Wednesday Feb 15th | 12-1:30 pm CT
An opportunity to explore the content from the previous nuggets, exchange insights, provide feedback, and get inspired. You are encouraged to join this virtual event whether or not you were able to make the in-person kick off!  Dr. Allison Plyer will unpack compelling data about inequity in  education – and will guide us through a few practical steps we can take to build greater equity. We will have facilitated, small-group dialogue to explore actions we are taking – and questions that are surfacing for us as we walk this path together.

                 **Mardi Gras day is February 21. We will be taking this time off, so nuggets will be paused Feb 16-24.**

Weeks 6 - 8 | Nuggets  Saturday March 11th to Tuesday March 28th

⦿ Everyone will receive 2 nuggets per week

Week 9 | Virtual Live Event #3 - Wednesday March 29th | 12-1:30 pm CT
An opportunity to explore the content from the previous nuggets, exchange insights, provide feedback, and get inspired. Please join for our 3rd event, even if you couldn’t make either of the previous events.  Dr. Plyer will share some of her discoveries when researching her own history of personal privilege – and will explain some sobering data on the importance of such research for each of us.  As always, we’ll have rich facilitated conversations in small groups, and use a simple tool to track the kinds of actions we want to take to address systemic racism.

Weeks 10-12 | Nuggets  Saturday April 8th to Tuesday April 25th

     ⦿ Everyone will receive 2 nuggets per week

Week 12 | Final Exchange (In-Person Live Event #4) - Wednesday April 26th | 5-6:30 pm CT
A final opportunity to:
   1) Exchange insights, gratitudes, and commitments;
  2) Explore ongoing ways to Connect, Learn, Inspire, Act in community;
  3) Provide final feedback

 We certainly hope that you can make our in-person closing event! We’ll exchange high level take-aways, as well as very personal, specific shifts that each of us want to make as a result of this experience. We’ll offer resources that support your next step in your personal journey to live your values, everyday!

Resources Used in Our Live Events

 1. Call To Action
 2. RACE: A Tool for Tracking Your Anti-Racism Actions
A brief note on the term BIPOC

We use the acronym BIPOC throughout this series to include all Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. While this term may not yet be widely used, we feel it is the most inclusive phrase available. At times we replace BIPOC with Black to be accurate about the data we are citing or reference we are making.

Stay With It!

We know that 12 weeks is a commitment. We know that after a few weeks you might feel like you’ve gotten enough ideas and resources – and might stop opening the nuggets. But, we also know this:
  • It takes frequent reinforcement over several months to create new habits and mindsets. Completing the entire series-with its twice weekly reminders over 12 weeks- will help you integrate new actions and ways of thinking into your daily life, long-term.

  • Each week introduces a new angle on systemic racism and how to address it. If you drop off before the series is complete, you’ll miss out on some key sets of actions and may miss those specific actions that best suit your unique circumstances.

Stick with the nuggets. Open both nuggets (one new topic and one new set of resources) each week. Remember - it’s just a few minutes of your time, for a lifetime of living your value of anti-racism.

Local Training Opportunities

The Anti-Racism Action Nuggets assume that you already have a strong understanding of - and commitment to - undoing systemic racism.  However, this is lifelong learning!
If you want a refresher on the roots of racism, and how it manifests today, here are a few training sources in New Orleans that we highly recommend.
